Survival Tips¶
Staying alive on a hardcore server takes more than good reflexes. These tips come from hard-earned experience and will help you make the most of the server's features.
Manage Your Trapped Souls¶
Your Trapped Souls are your most important resource. Treat them accordingly.
Keep Souls in Both Places¶
Trapped Souls work from your inventory and your Ender Chest. Take advantage of this:
- Keep 1-2 Trapped Souls in your inventory for everyday protection
- Store the rest in your Ender Chest where they're completely safe from any situation
Ender Chest = insurance policy
Even if you're out in the middle of nowhere with nothing but a pickaxe, a Trapped Soul in your Ender Chest will still save you. They work from there automatically -- no need to pull them out first.
Respect the Cap¶
You can hold a maximum of 5 Trapped Souls total across your inventory and Ender Chest combined. The server enforces this limit:
- You can't pick up more if you're at the cap
- If extras somehow end up in your inventory, they'll be dropped at your feet
Don't hoard -- you can't go above 5
There's no benefit to trying to stockpile Trapped Souls beyond 5. Once you're at the cap, focus on other preparations instead.
Build a Trading Hall Early¶
All villager trades on this server have infinite uses. They never lock out, and they never need to restock. This makes a proper trading hall one of the most powerful things you can build.
A few villagers with the right trades can give you:
- Unlimited enchanted books
- Unlimited diamond gear and tools
- Unlimited food, building materials, and potions ingredients
- Easy access to Emeralds through simple trades
Why this matters on hardcore
On a normal server, losing your gear is annoying. On a hardcore server, losing your gear could mean losing your next Trapped Soul -- or your life. A trading hall lets you re-gear quickly after a rough death.
Craft Revival Totems for Your Team¶
Revival Totems let you bring back a banned player immediately. They're expensive to craft (4 Gold Blocks + 4 Totems of Undying + 1 Diamond Block), but having a few on hand can save your teammates from a 36-hour wait.
Share the responsibility
If you're on a team, make sure multiple members carry Revival Totems. If only one person has them and that person dies without Trapped Souls... nobody can revive anyone.
Explore Structures for Unique Loot¶
This server rewards exploration heavily. Structures aren't just for XP and basic loot -- they hold things you can't get anywhere else.
What to Look For¶
- Yggdrasil Locations -- Norse mythology structures containing legendary weapons with unique abilities. These are some of the best items on the server.
- Dungeons & Taverns -- Over 40 unique structures with chests that can contain Trapped Souls (2% chance), custom enchantments, and rare gear.
- NeoEnchant Structures -- Certain structures contain exclusive enchantments from the NeoEnchant system that you won't find anywhere else -- not in enchanting tables, not from villagers.
- Incendium Structures -- The overhauled Nether has its own unique items and loot found only in Nether structures.
Respect the Nether¶
The Nether on this server is completely overhauled by Incendium. It's not the vanilla Nether you're used to.
Expect:
- Entirely new biomes with unfamiliar terrain
- New hostile mobs with abilities you haven't seen before
- New structures with valuable loot -- and dangerous guardians
- Higher overall difficulty compared to the vanilla Nether
Pack extra Trapped Souls before entering
The Nether is one of the most common places to die unexpectedly. Make sure you have Trapped Souls in your Ender Chest before stepping through a portal.
Use Your Team¶
If you're part of a team (via BetterTeams), you get some important benefits:
- PvP protection -- Team members can't damage each other. No more accidental sword swings during a mob fight.
- Team chat -- Coordinate privately without the whole server seeing your plans.
- Shared goals -- Split up tasks: one person builds the base, another farms totems, another explores for Trapped Souls.
Use /back After Death¶
When you die and respawn (saved by a Trapped Soul), use the /back command to teleport back to where you died. Your regular inventory items drop on death as usual, so getting back quickly is important.
Act fast
Your dropped items have a despawn timer. Use /back as soon as you respawn to recover your gear before it disappears.
Keep Your Ender Chest Stocked¶
Your Ender Chest is the safest storage on the server. Beyond Trapped Souls, consider keeping these inside:
- A spare set of armor and tools
- Food and building blocks for emergencies
- Your most valuable loot that you can't afford to lose
Since Trapped Souls work from the Ender Chest, it's doing double duty as both a safe and a death-prevention system.
